Nature & Mountains

Winter draws to a close. Nature awakens. We turn over the garden soil and plant our vegetables. The roe deer come back daily with their fawns. We shield the young trees from animals, and the sheep graze before heading up to the alpine pastures.

Nature offers up its finest flowers, and we harvest our vegetables. Hikes set off straight from the farms. We tend to the woodwork and the grounds. Days stretch long, sunsets turn glorious. We swap stories with hikers, often old-timers admiring the reconstruction.

The first snow dusts the summits. Stags bell across the slopes. Nature readies itself for winter. We bring in the firewood, the animals hibernate, the larches shed their needles. The flocks come back down from the high pastures and graze around the hamlet before returning to the valley.

The beauty of white landscapes. From the farmhouse windows, we watch skiers glide down the piste. You can set off straight from the hamlet, skis or snowshoes underfoot. Children go sledging and wage snowball fights. We warm ourselves by the fire. Nature slows to a hush, but roe deer still leave their tracks in the snow. Since the hamlet has no road access, we do our shopping with a backpack.
